Expert plumbers suggest that using toilet paper alternatives like wet wipes are clogging drains all through the Forth Worth area.
Over the last few months, plumbers in the area have noticed an increase in the number of clogged toilet calls. Those who have not observed an increase in calls, are bound to expect more numbers.
Clogged drains and pipes are usually caused by people who flush items that are not supposed to flushed down the toilet.
People usually substitute toilet paper for wet wipes, Kleenex and other paper products. Even though those substitutes are biodegradable, they do not break down in the same way as toilet paper when flushed.

Experts suggests that wet wipes, Kleenex and other materials that people substitute for toilet paper are causing clogs and sanitation issues. Rather than flush them, experts suggest that you should put them in a trash can.
Experts also suggest that there is no genuine substitute for toilet paper.
One of the leading plumbers in the area, Rod Winn, mentioned his call volume on clogs has increased in the past few months.
“This has been happening for a while now, although the number has increased astronomically in the last few months,” Winn said. “The reason why it is rampant in this time is because people are finding it difficult to access toilet paper. The honest truth is that there is no substitute for toilet paper. People are making ends meet, with whatever they can find.
“The good news is that plumbers are getting much work thanks to the numerous calls from left, right and center.”

“In recent weeks, we’ve noticed that the calls have reduced, maybe because some people are wise enough to know that they can’t flush anything down the toilet,” Longspaugh said.
These issues are mainly found in pre-1980s homes housing concrete or cast iron pipes. According to Longspaugh, cast-iron pipes easily develop scaly deposits which adhere to the paper products, and overtime create a blockage.
However, newer homes have less of this issue because they built with PVC pipes. However, over time, they are still susceptible to blockage and clogging, Longspaugh said.

More persons are staying indoors, so that means more usage. As lockdown eases, and people get back to their normal routines, we expect the number of calls to drop, Longspaugh said.
Manufacturers will continue to try their best to send out toilet papers as much as they can.
“We hope that whoever is buying all the merchandise will come to realize that they already have more than enough,” Longspaugh concluded.
