A few days before the Oscars ceremony for Oscar nominees, we decided to interview critics and journalists who are seriously following the award this year, watching all (Happy Season 3) films and writing forecasts. But not to find out who, in their opinion, will win. And in order to find out which of the nominees they themselves loved with all their soul and personally would have awarded the Oscar. It turned out to be the best way to find real treasures in the list of Oscar nominees.
Asya Zabolotskaya (Kinoafisha)
This “Oscar” looks to me the most understandable and logical. Virtually every film featured in the Best Picture category tells the story of the American people. Past, present, or even a little future. However, I am most of all rooting for the film “Munk” by David Fincher, which is unlikely to take anything, because academics, and indeed just people, do not need a crazy movie story now. And so – yes, “Munk” sunk into my heart. And the virtuoso acting work of Gary Oldman. And the ghostly Tom Burke as Orson Welles. And much more. I don’t think Oldman will have another Oscar, I doubt Anthony Hopkins will win, because Chadwick Boseman will most likely be awarded posthumously. Deservedly, because the actor is an incredible talent after all.
Among the actresses, I would like to see Vanessa Kirby the most with the statuette, since the whole situation with the film “Fragments of a Woman” is reminiscent of the situation with the “Room” and Brie Larson. Other talented artists are represented only in the nomination, so the choice is very difficult to make. I am also sincerely rooting for Emirald Fennell, no matter how much they criticize and doubt the “Promising Girl” . Just as a phenomenon Fennell seems to me very interesting, I also adore her in the TV series ” The Asterisk War Season 3 “.
In general, it is necessary to dramatize less and just give the award in the category “Best Song” to the composition Húsavíkt from the “Eurovision Music Competition”: The Story of the Fire Saga Group.
Maria Remiga (Cinemaholics)
Of the moderately obscure nominees, I really love the amazing Collective dock. This is a crazy story about how a fire broke out at a concert in a cramped club in Romania, many people died, but even more – later in the hospital from non-compliance with sanitary measures. A sports (!) Newspaper journalist begins his investigation and it turns out that the entire local health care system, in principle, can be taken out in the trash. Everything looks like a feature film (especially towards the end, thanks to editing), but even the conventional Soderbergh could not have invented such a thing.

You can probably declare your love for Frances McDormand for a long time and shed tears for Hollywood from the movie “Munk”, but this year I’m unlikely to feel for someone the same sympathy that I have Sacha Baron Cohen who was one of Oscar nominees. Partly for the length of service (here in the same heap there are both “Who is America?” In general, the actor did not need to radically change anything – it was only necessary to surround him with the necessary context, find a suitable type for him, and then he did everything himself.
Let’s consider his appearance in the nomination as an answer to everything at once. To the defeat of “Scout” in the race for the Golden Globe, to a conflict with the Queen members, because of which the actor lost the role of Freddie Mercury. Finding pretentious reasons to rejoice at Sasha Baron Cohen’s nomination is not a problem. It is much more difficult to accept the fact that at this “Oscar” he will probably give up the statuette to Daniel Kaluya. However, “The Trial of the Chicago Seven” has already taught us that a gesture is sometimes more important than a victory – and the appearance of this artist at the main film award, let’s be honest, can only be called an important gesture, a precedent to which he went throughout his amazing career. Despite the fact that the main filmmaker of the upcoming “Oscar” is already indisputably Chloe Zhao and her “Land of the Nomads” , traditionally all my love is given to outsiders and inconspicuous creative units of the award race.
From the pool of the main nominees, such is the directorial work of Regina King ” Hunter X Hunter Season 7 “, in which, in addition to the competent production, it is impossible not to note the brightest actor (also musician) Leslie Odom Jr. and the reference story about diversity (diversity) authored by Camp Powers (he also wrote Pixar ‘s Soul ). And there is no doubt that they will both be among the most sought-after people in Hollywood in the coming years. Of those who are already in demand there and who, according to forecasts, will not receive an acting “Oscar” this year, it is worth noting the most powerful performance by Vanessa Kirby (in the equally stunning film “Fragments of a Woman”).

The best movie about America is made by emigrants. In the 20th century – Wim Wenders with “Paris, Texas”, and now Chloe Zhao with “Land of the Nomads”. It represents a person’s life as an eternal migration, therefore, it sends the viewer on a journey. Meeting good strangers, colorful and everyday landscapes of a huge country, parting with dear memories and people – this is the “Land of nomads”. It does not require a special past from the beholder, but gives an invaluable experience to everyone. The main thing is to keep a pack of napkins nearby.
Natalia Serebryakova (Poster Daily, Kino TV)
Among the eight nominees for Best Picture, I have three favorites.
Firstly, I like Minari, a quiet drama about the American dream, if only the little “boy with a bucket”, the young prodigy Alan S. Kim (who was even interviewed by serious American publications) did not so infuriate.
Second, Girl of Hope is also a pretty film with memorable actor Bo Burnham as a child therapist. Now I will look for it in other films. But nevertheless, this is a very “Sundance” work, and does not attract a favorite in the main nomination.
Third, I love Trial of the Chicago Seven, a movie that I didn’t expect anything from, but which pleasantly surprised me and nailed me to the couch for two hours. In general, lately I have been gravitating towards procedural procedures, and, as you know, no one in this genre will film better than Aaron Sorkin.
The best actor for me is Stephen Yang. An amazingly handsome Korean with the charisma of James Dean (I even managed to chat with him by zoom, and he is very charming). Even from his role in ” Overlord Anime Season 4 ” it was clear that Ian has a greater future.

I like the smallest part of all the nominees.
Judas and the Black Messiah is the most action-packed film of those nominated in the main category, a good Hollywood thriller, it was interesting to watch, unlike all other films of an undefined genre. So it seems very unfair to me that Shaka King was not nominated for directing.
As for the roles, from the actors I like Reese Ahmed, handsome. But I’m not sure he reached his potential in The Sound of Metal . Daniel Kaluya has a charismatic role in Judas and the Black Messiah, but I’m not sure if this should be considered the best acting either. It seems to me that good acting is something less obvious, complex emotions, some experiences that you have not seen before. And here is a simple role-function of a charismatic leader. I’m not sure if there is anything ambiguous there. Of the actresses – probably Maria Bakalova, she is young, cheerful. These two qualities are rarely seen at Oscars, so it’s cool.
